Olympic Ambition

The Olympics are here! Sure, we love red, white, and blue, but there’s just something about all the spirit and excitement surrounding the Olympics that we just can’t get enough of. Get in the mood with of few of these athlete-approved pastimes that will keep you feeling good as well.

Bikram Yoga
Most people either love or hate this sweaty practice comprised of 26 poses. But if you’ve tried yoga before, and you really like to sweat, give Bikram a try this week. When you see all those gymnasts contour in those incredible poses, you’ll be happy you gave your own body a super stretch.

Spin
You don’t have to be Lance Armstrong to start spinning. It’s a great way to burn serious calories and if you find an instructor that works for you, it can be downright cathartic. Plus, the music alone is enough to get you pumped up.

Swimming Laps
With expectations for Ryan Lochte to beat Michael Phelps this year, try your best butterfly stroke and reap the benefits of killer lean muscles, without all the competition.

Boxing
Maybe it’s intimidating, and seems inaccessible at first, but there are plenty of opportunities to try on a couple of boxing gloves and start punching. Check out your local gym for classes, or see what a private trainer can do. If it’s good enough for Marlen Esparza, it’s good enough for you.

Running
Practice your own Sanya Richards-Ross moves and cut to the chase. Maybe you hate running—but if you ease your way into it, running is ideal for a lifetime of staying fit. Because you can run outdoors, just about anywhere, and at any gym, it’s the best no-excuse workout a girl can find.
